The Jenny Challenge

Well the worst day of the week has come and gone. Dear Monday- I hate you.

Luckily I was able to almost complete my Christmas shopping thanks to Cyber Monday. Between that and Black Friday I have spent waaaaay over my limit in Christmas presents. Now if someone could please find out what my father wants my shopping will be 100% done.

I was also able to get in a 4.5 mile run. Nothing special except for the fact the I am now at 12.5 mile for The Jenny Challenge.

Yep that’s right- I am attempting to run 100 miles between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is going to be quite hard but I have  a plan mapped out and so now I just need to stick to it. I’m already one 4 mile run behind…oops.

Technically the challenge counts 10 minutes of any cardio as a mile so if I followed that I would be at over 20 miles by now but I am going to try to just count actually running mileage. We’ll see if I still feel that way in a week or so.

Bonfield Express 5k Race Report

For the first time ever I participated in a Turkey Trot!

 

 

 

 

I wasn’t really sure I cared about doing a race again this soon but when I knew I would be in the suburbs on Thanksgiving morning I though I should probably sign up for a turkey trot. Luckily I was able to recruit my boyfriends two sisters to do it with me!

I didn’t really have any specific goals for this race besides go have fun but I knew I could probably run a decent (for me) time if I tried. I decided to make under 25 my A+ goal.

The course was more challenging than I am used to running on (i.e. the very flat lakefront path) but it was a really pretty course. I went out way to fast and semi-died on the second mile but came back for a strong finish.

  • Mile 2: 8:16
  • Mile 3: 8:11
  • Last .11: 47 seconds
  • Final Time: 25:04
When I finished and saw that I was only 4 seconds away from my goal I was a little pissed because I knew if I was paying attention to the time I could have made myself finish faster. But I also felt like I was going to throw up so I knew I had run hard!
My most recent PR is 24:55 from the Hot Chocolate 5k last year so I have a feeling I can break that in my next race.
I was 600/4441 and 38/559 in my age group.

Thanksgiving Traditions

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because not only do I get to hang out with my family and cousins, I also get to see all of my extended family (think over 100 cousins, second cousins + their kids, aunts, uncles and great aunts).

Every year my whole extended family on my Dad’s side gets together for a huge thanksgiving feast at my great aunts farm. This year we had 87 people there- and that was small!

I love thanksgiving food as much as anyone else but I really love the desserts.

These turkey cake pops were amazing. I contributed Julie’s pumpkin spice cookies as well and they were a huge hit.

The rest of the weekend consisted of hanging out with the family, eating, buying almost ALL my Christmas presents (pretty excited about that one) and attending my 5 year high school reunion.

Now it is back to the grind for a few more weeks until Christmas. I am going to FL for a week over Christmas break and couldn’t be more excited- hurry up time!!

Biggest Loser Week 10

Sorry for the lack of #BL12 posts the past two weeks- I didn’t get to watch the show until later in the week and by that time thought a recap was too postdated.

Luckily this week I actually was able to watch the show on Tuesday night (1/2 hr delayed so I didn’t have to watch the commercials of course) and I am so glad I did- GREAT episode!

Trainers: Dolvett really had to kick John’s butt this week or else he was at risk of going home. The last thing this show needs is Dolvett to go home so I am really glad they managed to hold on for one more week.

Competitions: The Thanksgiving eating challenge was actually pretty gross. None of that food looked good! Lucky for him Vinny was able to win the 3 lb advantage and the rest of the contestants were left with excess calories to burn off.

The Jacob’s ladder challenge is always one of my favorites because the contestants actually have to do a lot of physical activity to win it. An hour and a half of any type of cardio is no joke but I am guessing it was very difficult on that thing. John winning the one pound advantage at this might actually do him more harm than good in the upcoming weeks.

Weigh in: So John has a terrible weight loss week but a 1 lb advantage. Then he selfishly gives Sunny the 1 lb disadvantage putting her and Ramon under the yellow line. I am with Antone on this one in that I was SHOCKED John went on to vote for Sunny. He knew she did not deserve to be up for elimination and yet he still tried to eliminate her?

I really hope he understands that if he is below the yellow line next week he is going home without question. But maybe he already knew that. Either way Ramon went home and the date they showed with Jessica was just too much for my cheesy quota.

Anyone else think Ramon is going to propose during the marathon?

Why do you think John so stupidly voted for Sunny?

Thankful

In the spirit of Thanksgiving I thought I would share what I am feeling thankful for this week.

I am thankful for..short work weeks. Most the time I really do enjoy going to work and I love what I do, but it is really nice to have a 3 day work week!

I am thankful for.. my puppy.

My mom took Charlie home this week so I am spending 4 whole days without him and its so weird! And while my whole schedule/priorities have changed since I got the little nugget I really do love having him.

I am thankful for..my family.

See above- now that is some motherly love. I have an amazing family and I cannot wait to go home and hang out with them for the holiday/weekend.

I am thankful for.. my boyfriend.

Even though he is not spending the holiday with us, Sean is still pretty great. I am really excited to go to FL with his family the week after Christmas

I am thankful for.. Starbucks lattes.

Gingerbread Latte, Peppermint mochas, Pumpkin Spice..they make my day instantly better.

I am thankful for..running.

I am really glad that I enjoy running so much right now. I find it empowering that I can run far and at a decent pace (for me). It helps me stay in shape and is a fast, effective workout.

I am thankful for.. Chicago.

I love everything about living in this city. And that is a big thing to say considering its about to be freezing here for the next 4 months.

The weekend of eating

This past weekend my mom and little sister came to visit. It was the first time my sister Abby had visited us in Chicago so naturally we had to make it as fun as possible. Unfortunately she is also 16 so we were limited on the “fun” places to go (aka karaoke bars).

So what did we do? We ate. A LOT. And of course because I am a bad blogger I have very little pictures of our delicious food, but believe me it was wonderful.

The best part about all the eating we did is that I now have food to last me until I go home for Thanksgiving- no grocery shopping this week!

I have a full day of work today- Wed then I am off to spend the night with my boyfriends family, wake up and do a Turkey Trot Thursday morning and then go to my families Thanksgiving then home for the weekend. I am so excited for all of this so I really hope the next three work days fly by.

So Happy Turkey Week to all of you! How are you getting through this short work week?

The Long Run That Wasn’t

Last night I was all prepared to do my long run this morning. I had my warm winter clothes set out and my garmin charged and ready. The plan was to run to work and since I work at 6 am that led to a veryy early wake up call.

And then I stepped outside. It was freezing and windy. Did I really want to run outside today? Nahhh

So no long run happened outside. I am hoping to get 6 treadmill miles in later and then do a short run outside tomorrow to bring the weekly total to 16.

It is becoming harder and harder to motivate myself to do longer runs outside because I am not currently training for anything. Does it really matter if I run a long run this week? Not at all.

However I did sign up for a 5k Turkey Trot on Thanskgiving morning. I don’t have any high expectations for it besides just have fun and try to enjoy racing again.

So what’s a girl to do when she fails at her workout? Naturally start Friday off with a billion calories of Dunkin Donuts.

I have been craving a pumpkin donut since September and never got one.. today was the day. And it was so worth it.
