Robbing me blind

14 Oct

I knew going into getting a pup it was going to be expensive but WOW..this puppy is robbing me blind.

Charlie got his rabies shots yesterday- only one more day of shots and his neutering to get through before I can stop spending my life savings on this pup.

Sorry for the mainly puppy centric posts this week. I haven’t had much else to blog about because my workouts were pathetic this week. I mean Monday’s workout was pretty good, then Tuesday I went for a 12 mile bike ride but since then I have done NOTHING. Lameness.

Its been a busy week at work and I am attending a conference this week as well, so zero free time + rainy weather = no workouts. Not an good excuse but hey it is what it is.

This afternoon I am going home for the weekend with my sister and the pup so next time you hear from me it will be from the dirty south.. or central Illinois.

Happy Friday Friends! And if you haven’t watched this yet do it NOW.

Fueled by Sugar

4 Oct

My boyfriend and I work on the same street a few blocks away from each other. Since we don’t always see each other during the week I tend to stop by his work a lot and he brings me treats. Like every Wednesday they have “Bagel Wednesday” which actually leads to me having bagel Wednesday as well.

Some days he brings me delicious things like peanut butter cookies and hot chocolate. Oh wait, that was yesterday and it was wonderful. Unfortunately I still had to work out after consuming hundreds of grams of sugar- not the best idea.

I only had 30 minutes to work out so I did this short by intense workout:

  • Run 2 miles getting progressively faster. I started at a 4.0 walk and ended up running at 7.2
  • Do 50 regular squats with 10 lb weights
  • Do 50 plie squats with 10 lb weights
  • Do 50 lunges with 10 lb weights
  • Do 50 dead lifts with 10 lb weights
  • Jump Rope for 2 minutes
Whew! For only 30 minutes I worked up quite a sweat.
In other news today is Tuesday so that’s always good. Unlike Amy I actually enjoy Tuesday’s, I am done with work at 3 and don’t work until 10 on Wednesday’s. That means lots of staying up late to watch all my shows (biggest loser, parenthood AND teen mom).
Do you have someone who brings you treats or have an office full of them?
-I don’t have any co-workers so I avoid the office full of sweets and just rely on the bf for that instead!

Starting the week off right

27 Sep

Let’s be honest: I was pretty lazy last week. Sure I worked out T/W/Th and then went on two long walks Friday and Sunday but that is not really that much. I also drank a lot of Sangria and sweet tea vodka, ate burgers and fries and deep dish pizza this weekend.

I needed to start this week off on a better note.  So last night I decided an hour of cardio was necessary.

I was ready to just do an hour on the elliptical and call it a day but I was reading in Fitness Magazine an article about a trainer who doesn’t push herself in her own workouts. I can TOTALLY relate to that. I know a lot of the times I put my clients through way harder workouts then I do that day.

30 minutes of elliptical intervals, 10 minutes of jump rope and burpees, and 15 minutes on the treadmill (sprints and incline walking) and I was feeling much better about the massive cookie I had for an afternoon snack.

I came home to a salad and a green smoothie.

And then because I am human I finished off these..

Yumm. Goal for today is to continue my healthy week streak with a 4 mile run. Theres a 100% chance I will follow that up with a Dunkin Donuts pumpkin spice latte. Everything in moderation right?

How are you starting this week off right?

Life Is Crazy

30 Aug

Creative title no? I feel like I have been such a bad blogger lately and it is all because of this man!

This past weekend we took Charlie to his first “boat day.” Sean’s family has an awesome boat in one of the big harbours on Lake Michigan so it was so fun and relaxing to hang out there on Saturday.

The rest of the weekend consisted of going out with friends, eating delicious food, and napping. We did go on a long bike ride on Friday night so at least we were semi active.

The past few weeks my life feels like it has been turned upside down. I have totally new priorities (puppy) so I don’t have the freedom to go running or biking like I used to. Last week I did 4 legit workouts and ran a total of 6.5 miles. Not terrible considering everything but nowhere near what my activity level was while I was training for the half.

I have a ton of things I want to do with the blog and a bunch of updates to make, I just can never seem to find time to sit down with my computer and do it. So thank you readers for sticking with me during this crazy time..I am sure everything will calm down soon!

I mean Charlie seems to be able to chill out pretty easily..maybe I should take  a note from him!

In other good news I had my first pumpkin spice latte yesterday from Dunkin Donuts. Pumpkin in August? Why not.

Just wanted to end with a big shout out to family friend and blog reader Shannon for finishing the Chicago triathlon this weekend! She kicked bootayy and got 3rd in her division!

How do you manage to fit blogging in when life is crazy?

Return to Running

23 Aug

After a week-long hiatus from running post half-marathon I made my glorious return! On Monday night I decided it was time to do a run again so I did a little speed work on the treadmill

  • 10 min warm up
  • 10 minutes of HIIT
  • 10 min cool down
For the HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) I did a 30 s sprint at 8.0 and then jumped on the side and rested for 15 s and repeated for 10 min. I have been wanting to do workouts like this forever but it didn’t seem like speed work that would be beneficial for my long distances. Now that I don’t have any certain amount I need to run I love the freedom to do any type of workout I want!
So far today I have yet to do any exercise besides take Charlie on a walk. Baby steps right?
Speaking of Charlie, I gave him a bath on Sunday night and it was the cutest thing ever. He so did not like it! He was super freaked out afterwards and just crawled into a ball on my lap and went to sleep.
Poor baby.
How do you get back into working out after a race or event?

The Cheap Girl Workout

22 Jul

Happy Friday 🙂

I am super excited for this weekend because I am going home for my Dad’s 50th birthday!

My dad and I on my 22nd birthday

My dad is pretty much the coolest guy in the world so I am super excited to go home and hang out with him and the rest of my fam!

Yesterday as I was deciding what I wanted to do to for a workout I remembered an old favorite of mine from college. I always used to do random Exercise TV workout’s in college because 1. They were FREE and 2. They were challenging!

I am dubbing On Demand Exercise TV as “The Cheap Girl Workout” because it allows you to try all sorts of different workouts without having to pay for exercise dvds or to take group fitness classes at a gym. These workouts have a lot of pro’s and a few cons.

  • They are FREE if you have On Demand Cable
  • They range from 10 min-60 min videos so you can choose how long you want to workout for
  • There is a huge variety (yoga, pilates, cardio, weights, belly dancing, walking and more!)
  • They let Jillian Michael’s kick your butt without having to buy her videos
  • If you don’t like one video you can always turn it off and try a new one
  • They usually need very little equipment
  • This is a con of most workout videos/some group classes: You don’t have the individual attention of a trainer to watch and see if you are doing the moves correctly
  • Some videos are better than others so it is a trial and error until you find ones you like
  • Some videos are only half as long as the real video if you were to purchase it
  • The videos are constantly changing so the one you really enjoyed last week may no longer be there this week
Overall I think the Pro’s of using Exercise TV videos outweight the Con’s. Just be careful if you are new to exercising before you jump into some of the more complicated weight lifting ones!
My personal favorites are any of the Jillian Michael’s videos (30 Day Shred, Boost Your Metabolism, No More Trouble Zones) and the 10 min arms, abs and legs videos!

Do you ever use Exercise TV for workout videos?
